Welcome!

What is animism?

Animism is the practice of finding spirituality through connection to the Earth. It can look many different ways for different people, and is compatible with other spiritual practices or atheism. Feel free to swap out the word “Animist” for “Earth,” “Nature,” or another word if it is easier for you to relate to.

Why a church?

I grew up Methodist, and I’m adapting some of the communal worship structures from there to be used in a non-Christian context. For me, church means a place where folks with similar beliefs come together to think, sing, and pray. Feel free to swap out the word “Church” for “Sangha,” “Temple,” “Puja,” or another word if it resonates better for your cultural background.

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church–

I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –
Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice –
I, just wear my Wings –
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton – sings.
God preaches, a noted Clergyman –
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last –
I’m going, all along.
By Emily Dickinson
